Palma, MajorcaPalma is the capital city on the island of Majorca, but is a far cry from the rest of Majorca. There are no beaches in Palma and parties with a whole roasted pig are nowhere to be seen in the designer hotels. Palma means class and style. There is high class shopping here near the Jaime III hotel, there are gourmet restaurants and trendy tapas bars and there is both history and culture in the form of
La Seu Cathedral and the
Miró museum.
Most people do not choose Palma because they want a holiday lying on beaches but on Majorca it is never far to one of the more than 150 beaches. There are also 19 golf courses on the island, which makes Palma the perfect starting point for those of you who have your golf bag with you. Majorca also attracts cyclists and ramblers with a wide and varied choice of routes that suit both ordinary joggers and pros.
Eating out in Palma is a real pleasure and there is everything from the Majorcan cuisine to Spanish and international dishes. The island produces good quality raw ingredients and there are many local specialities to try. Mallorca also has its own wine, which is well worth trying. After your meal you could continue the evening in some local bars and then perhaps visit one of the night clubs. Palma equals party.
Do go on a shopping trip in Palma. There is a choice of small boutiques, large department stores and plenty of markets. Clothes and shoes are good buys as are products made from hide and leather, ceramics and pearls.
After a long day it is very pleasant to check into one of the many smart and trendy boutique hotels in Palma.
