Bienvenue!
Nice, Cannes, St Tropez, Antibes, Monaco... These legendary places lie as pearls in a necklace along what we usually call the “Riviera”, the “Côte d'Azur”, or – quite simply – paradise. Nice is the manifest centre of the French Riviera with the Alps and Provence to the north, and the Mediterranean stretching away from the classic beach promenade “La Promenade des Anglais”. The water is warm from May until October, and the beaches are right in the centre of town.
Nice and the Riviera have not only sunshine and swimming, but also everything else that you can desire from a perfect holiday: good food, exciting shopping, historical and cultural attractions, and comfortable hotels.
Food is a natural focus when in Provence and the cuisine in southern France is based on olive oil, garlic, lemon and fresh vegetables, with the neighbouring Italy also making its influence felt. Nice has restaurants for all tastes and purses, from luxury gourmet establishments to simple bistros and classical brasseries with simple country food. The older part of the town, la Vieille Ville, has small, pleasant restaurants closely packed in the winding narrow streets. The marketplace Cours Saleya is also in this part of town, with a flower and vegetable market six days a week.
Note that most restaurants open for lunch around 12.00-12.30, and close two or three hours later. They open again for the evening around 7.30 pm.
